Buffalo Falls to Palmer

GAINING SOME YARDS -- Eric Beshears picks up some yardage for the Bison on Friday night against Palmer.

The Football week started on Thursday night with the cancellation of the 8th Grade and Junior Varsity games due to lightning and threating weather.

Friday morning the Mighty Bison had breakfast at Anthony?s Restaurant generously sponsored by Bison Dad, Craig Thompson owner of Thompson Cutting Horses.

Travels Friday afternoon took the team, coaches, and fans north on I45 to Palmer, Texas where they were to do battle with district competitor - the undefeated Palmer Bulldogs.

Buffalo took the opening kickoff and were unable to move the football and after an offensive series plagued with miscues punted to Palmer. The Bulldogs put a heavy rush on our punter and the punt went out of bounds in Bison territory.

Palmer had their first break of the evening and went to work. Their 3rd year starter QB/ LB team leader drove the Bulldogs down the short field and they scored at the 8:01 mark of the 1st quarter.

The PAT was good. Buffalo 0 ? Palmer 7.

Marked with miscues and penalties the 1st quarter finally ended with Our Guys trailing the Bulldogs 7 ? 0.

The 2nd quarter started with Palmer driving the football to the Bison 16 but our Mighty Bison defense stiffened with good defensive plays by Chase Thompson, Asa Henson, and Reese Boyd.

The ?wounded duck? Palmer field goal spun wide left and the Bison offense started on our own 20 yd line. The Palmer defense came to play ? our team had been well scouted and our key offense players were stopped.

The Bulldog offense again drove the field starting at their own 48 yd line. Palmer mixed up the play selection using good running and passing and drove to the Bison 2 yd line. They scored with 5:21 left in the 1st half . The PAT attempt looked like it would not be successful but after the ball touched several hands it found their receiver in the end zone ? 2 points for the Bulldogs

New score ? Buffalo 0 ? Palmer 15

Our offensive drive stalled on the next series and after another Buffalo punt the Bulldogs drove to the Bison 10 yd line.

Our defense stiffened sparked by more good plays by Thompson and his Mighty Bison teammates.Their field goal kicker once again made an attempt and it looked like the opening day of duck season ----- another ?wounded duck? field goal attempt fluttered helplessly to the turf?.NO GOOD.

With 1:05 remaining QB Brett Hoffman started on the Bison 20 yd line and drove the team to the Palmer 35 yd line highlighted by a good pass and run by Freshman Kyle Harrison.

Time elapsed and the 1st half ended. Buffalo 0 ? Palmer 15.

The 2nd half started with Palmer receiving the kickoff and Our Guys showed spark and the Mighty Bison defense stopped Palmer.

After a Palmer punt to the Bison 35 yd line Hoffman started himself and the team in motion. The Bison offense had some life and moved down the field. Highlights of this drive included a ?on target? pass from Brett Hoffman to Jamaul Randle and runs by Hoffman to the Palmer 12 yd line. Good offensive line play by Landon Folsom, Juan Vasquez, Dustin Morgan, Abel Salazar, and Layne Freeman were major keys in this offensive series. The successful drive concluded with Hoffman sprinting into the end zone ? the Bison were on the board and had new life. PAT was good by Junior Francisco Saldana.

With 6:45 left in the 3rd quarter ? Buffalo 7 ? Palmer 15

Our Team had some new life but after Palmer received the kickoff they again drove the field to the Buffalo 28 yd line. Our defense once again stiffened and there was new hope.

On a 4th down and 14 play the Bulldogs? QB and team leader eluded tacklers and ended up on the Bison 2 yd line?..their skilled double duty QB then pushed into the Bison end zone for the score. Their PAT was good :44 seconds to go in the 3rd quarter ? New Score Buffalo 7 ? Palmer 22

The razzle / dazzle 4th quarter started with a pass from Hoffman to Randle on the Bulldog 40 yd line. The Palmer defense stiffened again and the Bison had to punt.

The Bulldog offense started deep in own their territory and again marched downfield ?they scored with 8:26 left in the 4th quarter. PAT good ? Buffalo 7 ? Palmer 29.

The no quit Buffalo offense started on their own 33 yd line with Hoffman moving around and frustrating the Bulldog defense. Passes to Kyle Harrison to the Palmer 20 yd line and then to their 2 yd line set up Junior Eric Beshears for his rush into the Bulldog end zone. The 2pt PAT attempt was no good.

With 6:34 to go in the contest ? New Score Buffalo 13 ? Palmer 29.

After an unsuccessful onside kick-off attempt Palmer started on their own 49 yd line.

The Bison defense sparked by plays by Klaro Mancilla, Asa Henson, Zayne Johnson and teammates made strong attempts to keep Palmer out of the Buffalo end zone.

The determined Bulldogs lead by their play caller pushed forward and scored with 2:01 left in the contest. PAT no good... Buffalo 13 ? Palmer 35.

Here comes QB Brett Hoffman and the Mighty Bison offense one more time.

Hoffman moving around and making plays highlighted by a ?on target? pass to Kyle Harrison moved the offense to the Bulldog 3 yd line. Eric Beshears bulled into the Palmer for his 2nd touchdown of the evening to increase the score with :13 seconds left.

The Bison PAT attempt was a bad punctation mark on a very frustrating outing ? the Palmer defender scooped the ball and raced the length of the field for their final score.

Final Score ? Buffalo 19 ? Palmer 37
