BISD Ready for New School Year

BISD PRINCIPAL -- Kelli Moore will be the Principal for the Lower Junior High Campus. Moore, a granddaughter of L Roy and Wanda Cooper, takes the position vacated by Susan Shelton who resigned earlier this year.

Trustees for the BISD School Board met Monday, August 12th, for a special called meeting. It was the last meeting before the commencement of the 2019-2020 school year. All Trustees were present; President Jack Helmcamp presided.

The board approved the proposed tax rate (same as last year) for the new school year. The board set a public hearing for the proposed tax rate on August 26th. This meeting will be held at 5:45 pm, just prior to the start of the board?s regular monthly meeting that will begin at 6:00pm.

A retainer for school counsel for the new school year was approved. As was the contracted services for the school financial consultant.

The handbooks for the campus, district employees, and athletes for the new year were approved.

A resolution regarding the Freestone County 4H, Leon County 4H, and Buffalo Little Dribblers as eligible for status as extracurricular organizations was approved. Similarly, the Adjunct Faculty Agreement with Freestone County 4H, Leon County 4H, and Buffalo Little Dribblers was approved.

The Teacher Evaluation Calendar for the new school year was approved. The FNF (local) Policy update regarding the appeal process was approved. And the sports medicine provider contract was approved.

The roofing bid from Honey?s Roofing was approved in the amount of $30,000. This will be for a new roof installed on the old Ag Shop at the Upper Junior High Campus.

The board voted in favor of the retention/performance incentive as presented by Superintendent Lacy Freeman in a closed session. And the board voted in favor of the stipends for 2019-2020 as presented in the closed session.

Current School Trustees are Helmcamp, Bobby Fishbeck, John Rodell, Cole McVeay, Brad Ezell, Randy Ayers, and Tim Ezell.
