BISD Continues to Prepare For Upcoming School Year

Buffalo ISD Trustees met Monday, July 15th, for their regular monthly meeting. All Trustees were present except Cole McVeay and Randy Ayers. President Jack Helmcamp presided.

The board elected Trustee John Rodell to serve as Vice President of the board. This office was held by Trustee Monty McGill who resigned from the board last month. The Board also voted to elect Trustee Tim Ezell as the Alternate Vice President.

BISD Superintendent Lacy Freeman gave an update on the repairs and improvements being made on all the campuses in preparation for classes to resume next month. Besides daily mowing and weed eating, some of the buildings are getting fresh paint, and the ceiling at the Upper Junior High has been replaced. Computers on all campuses are being upgraded. And the work to improve the parking lot at the High School is still planned but was delayed due to weather.

The board approved a budget amendment to accept the payment of $4,300 that the school was awarded by the courts after a judge ordered the individual responsible for damaging the school?s sport?s field to pay the amount in restitution.

The board approved the State and Federal Grants Procedure Manual for 2019-2020, and the Board Standard Operating Procedures for the upcoming school year.

And the student drug testing service was approved for 2019-2020.

The board held a one hour closed session. One item on their agenda was in regard to employment of teachers/coaches/counselors, but no action was taken. The board did approve the substitute teacher compensation plan as presented in the closed session.

The board scheduled a Special Meeting for August 5th. This will be a budget workshop and the board will set the tax rate. On August 19th, the board will hold a Hearing for that tax rate at 5:45pm, and following the hearing, at 6:00pm, will be the board?s August regular meeting.
