BEDC EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR -- Outgoing BEDC Executive Director Ken Jones with new Executive Director Mike Anderson.

The Buffalo Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) held its annual meeting Wednesday, June 12th, at the new Buffalo Civic Center. The meeting also served as a gathering of family, friends, and supporters of retiring BEDC Director Ken Jones and BEDC Secretary Pauline Graham. Sandwiches and drinks were served.

Dr. Russell Jonas, President of BEDC, and on behalf of the entire board, presented Jones with a plaque of appreciation for his service. Jones has been the only Executive Director BEDC has had. Alongside Jones, BEDC Secretary Pauline Graham was also honored and thanked. Both began their positions at BEDC in 2001.

?We are so thankful,? said Jonas, ?to have had Ken and Pauline?s leadership for so long. They have both given a positive impact to Buffalo.?

Jones also spoke, ?Buffalo has grown in the past few years, and it is set to explode in the next two to three years. We just need to continue to direct that growth. Of all the things BEDC has had a hand in, I am most proud of the effort we gave to see the Expo Center become a reality. It has been a good thing for Buffalo and Leon County.?

Jones also said, ?The most important person that impacted my success as BEDC Director has been Pauline. She was very important to me, and she is my cousin.? Jones thanked the current board of directors and also former Buffalo Mayor Royce Dawkins. ?I wish Royce could have been here today; he has been very good to work with.?

In other regular business, the BEDC board voted to approve a request for funds from the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce to be used in their annual Buffalo Stampede event. The board approved funds in the amount of $5,000.

Approval was given to a request from the Buffalo Summer Basketball Tournament in the amount of $1,300. Larry Tatum reported that this event has grown each year since its beginning in 1995.

And, directors voted to allow $3,000 for the annual Fourth of July Celebration that will be held at the Leon County Expo Center by the Hat Brand Rodeo. Courtney and Shannon Rodell were present and thanked the board for their continued support. ?This will be the sixth year,? said Shannon Rodell. ?It has gotten larger each year, and this year we have added two extra days, making it a five day event.? Added will be one day of team roping and one day of a ranch rodeo.

Current BEDC board directors are: Dr. Russell Jonas, Bobby Fishbeck, Mike Glick, Cindy Port, Susan Wilder, Dianne Ryder, and Larry Tatum. Mike Anderson became the new Executive Director on June 1st.
