Chamber Plans For 2018 Banquet

Directors of the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce met Thursday, January 24, for their regular monthly meeting. President Phillip Bounds presided. Guests at the meeting were Pam Stroud, Charles Maley, Jarrod Jones, Kim McLerran, and Denise Rosington.

The main topic was to finalize plans for the Annual Banquet the directors will host tonight at the Civic Center from 6pm to 8pm. The public is invited. The annual event is to recognize and award businesses and individuals who contribute to the success of the Buffalo community. A dinner of rib eye steak will be served for $20 a person. The meal will be prepared by Catering by Cindy of Jewett. Door prizes will be awarded.

In other business, President Elect Elizabeth Ferrari passed out a survey to the directors to help establish concerns and needs for the direction of the Chamber in 2019. A similar survey is offered to all citizens. To fill out the survey, contact Ferrari at askelle247@gmail.com.

Guest Kim McLerran of the Small Business Development Center gave a short presentation of their services to help small, new and existing businesses maximize their entrepreneurship. SBDC is a non-profit organization. McLerran works from the SBDC office in Huntville but is in Jewett and Buffalo once a month. Contact McLerran at 936.294.3737.

Directors voted to pay $100 in dues to the Leon County Economic Development for 2019.

January 31st, was selected for the date of the Grand Reopening for State Farm.

Charles Maley of Texas Central donated $60 to the Chamber to help cover the expense of door prizes for the banquet.

Bounds reported that in the year 2018, eighteen new businesses joined the Chamber. Some of these were businesses that had once belonged to the Chamber and had dropped off for a few years, but decided to return. The Chamber welcomed all.

Directors and guests enjoyed a spaghetti and meatball lunch provided by Sue Pittman, Secretary of the Buffalo Chamber. Thank you, Sue!
