TRTA Holds First Meeting for 2018-2019

LCRTA OFFICERS -- President Jacquelyn Morrow, First Vice-President Lavern Manning, Second Vice-President Jane Ann Durbin, Secretary Judy Dorset, Treasurer Verdine H. Perry.

The Leon County Retired Teacher Association met on Wednesday, September 26th at the Municipal building in Centerville at 12:00 pm. Lunch was served by Birdene Perry, Eva Bell, and Dorothy Bottoms, September hostesses. Tables were colorfully decorated with various fall decorations. Everyone enjoyed seeing each other and having the chance to visit.

The business meeting was presided over by the new president, Jacquelyn Morrow. She welcomed Jeanne Eppes, a new member to LCRTA. The treasurer?s report was given by treasurer, Verdine H. Perry. Committee Reports were presented by Committee Chairmen. Al Campbell distributed copies of his May and September Legislative reports. Lavern Manning, Retirement Education Chairman, asked for ideas of ways LCRTA could show appreciation to all of the hard working teachers in all of the schools in Leon County. She recognized the LCRTA members who had died this year by calling out their names. The names called were Peggy Bloomer, Lilly Mae Cantu, Henrilois Haynie and Jacquelyn Matthews.Birdene Perry, Health Care Chairman, had members stand and participate in an exercise. Historian, Eva Bell, discussed collecting information to include in the scrapbook pages.

President Morrow shared that LCRTA?s new banner was displayedat the Leon County Health Fair. LCRTA had a table and was represented at the Fair. Lavern Manning will research about the cost of purchasing LCRTA T-shirts and will present her findings at the October meeting. A group of LCRTA members were planning to attend a meeting hosted by the Fairfield RTA.

Tim Lee, Executive Director of Texas Retired Teachers Association, was to be the speaker. Several LCRTA members will be attending the District VI Fall Conference on October 10 at the Region VI Service Center in Huntsville from 8:30 am-2:00 pm. September birthdays were celebrated. President Morrow presented birthday gifts to Verdine H. Perry and Bobbye Bullock.

The October LCRTA meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 24 in Centerville at the Municipal Building. Hostesses for the 12:00 luncheon will be Verdine H. Perry and Mae Wagner. LCRTA members please mark this date on your calendars.
