School Tax Rate Proposed

Trustees for the Buffalo Independent School District met Monday, August 6th, for a special called meeting to work on the budget and a tax rate proposal for the 2018 ? 2019 school year. All trustees were present. BISD Board President Jack Helmcamp presided.

The proposed tax rate for 2018 ? 2019 was set at 1.29657 which is the same rate as last year. A public hearing on the proposed tax rate and the budget is set for August 20th at 5:30 just prior to the board?s regular monthly meeting on the same date which will include the consideration to adopt the proposed tax rate.

Also approved for the new year was the retainer for the school counsel, and the student transfer list. Presently the number of transfer students into BISD is at 47. These students live in various neighboring school districts.

The campus, district employee, and athletic handbooks for the year were approved. And also approved was the contract for the school financial consultant.

Resolutions regarding the Freestone County 4H, the Leon County 4H, and the Buffalo Little Dribblers as eligible for status as extracurricular organizations were approved. And the T-TESS teachers? evaluation calendar was approved.

The meeting began with a budget workshop presented by BISD Superintendent Lacy Freeman and BISD Business Manager Courtney Rodell.

A closed session of the board was held to discuss security improvements for BISD and to consider the Superintendent?s recommendations regarding stipends and the hiring scale.

When the board returned from the closed meeting, a motion was made to approve the recommendations for stipends and a teacher hiring scale as presented in closed session by Freeman. This motion was approved, and the meeting was adjourned.
