Commissioners Meet

The Leon County Commissioners held their first regular meeting of the month Thursday, May 10th. All were present except Leon County Judge Byron Ryder who was attending a school for probate court. Commissioner Joey Sullivan presided.

The commissioners voted in favor of John L. Steinbecker using the Courthouse Square on Saturday, June 30th for the Tammy Steinbecker Memorial Foundation Event.

The court also gave approval for Leslie Wallrath and Keith Cook to use the Gazebo on July 3rd, at 12:00pm to read the Declaration of Independence.

Approval was given to appoint Dianne Ryder to the BVCOG Local Workforce Development Board.

The commissioners voted in favor of a resolution opposing unfunded mandates by the State Legislature. ?If they don?t send money for a mandate, we don?t want to enforce it,? said Commissioner David Ferguson.

Approval was given on submission of an application for a district building generator under the DR-4332 Hurricane Harvey Grant. Grantworks is applying for this grant on the behalf of the county.

A notice of intent for the projects on listed County Roads for the the Mitigation Grant was approved. This concerns CR 408, 403, 314, 498, 275, and 112.

Another road project in Precinct 3 was approved. The project is to address a low wet spot on County Road 348 and will involve removing a fence, putting new pipe in the road, clearing timber on Barnett side, putting mud and timber in a dugout, and cleaning up both sides of CR 347. Commissioner Dean Stanford explained that the goal is to widen the road and clean the ditches. It will involve about one mile of roadway and will begin in about two weeks.

Approval was given to go out for a tire collection grant for 2019.

Approval was given for Leon County Attorney Caleb Henson to write a resolution/proclamation for the DAR organization.

A bid from Dennis and Susan Pugh in the amount of $750 for Lot 11, Block 13 in Hilltop Lakes was approved.

A Road Use Agreement on County Road 203 in Precinct 1 was approved.

Approval was give for monthly reports per the Local Government Code, Section 114.044.
