4-H’er Heads to Nationals

NATIONALS -- Natalie Uptmor earned top honors at the state contest last summer, and is ready to compete at the national level.

Buffalo 4-H member Natalie Uptmor placed 1st at the Texas 4-H Fashion Show in June, and will compete at the Western National Roundup on January 5th in Denver. This is an exciting opportunity for Natalie as one of only 4 Texas 4-H members to participate in the National Fashion Revue contest. Youth from across the country will be vying to bring top honors back to their home states. In addition to competing, Natalie will also participate in recognition banquets, workshops, flag ceremonies and the state pin swap. The event also includes a day at the National Western Stock Show, which was established in 1906, and is the premier livestock, rodeo, and horse show in the nation, serving agricultural producers and consumers throughout the world.

During her busy nine-year 4-H career, Natalie has excelled in several projects including clothing and textiles, food and nutrition and rabbit. She has devoted hundreds of hours to her various 4-H activities including club meetings, project work, contests, trainings, and community service activities. Natalie currently serves as the Health and Safety Officer for Buffalo 4-H. For her efforts and accomplishments, Natalie was awarded the 4-H Gold Star Award, the highest award at the county level, in 2016.

Natalie, the daughter of Weldon and Julie Uptmor, is a senior at Buffalo High School. She has served as 1st Lieutenant for the Bison Belles this year, and has been a member of the National Honor Society for 3 years. She is currently ranked 3rd in her class, and has been accepted to Texas A&M University.

Due to the costs related to the trip, Natalie has been busy securing sponsors to help offset those expenses. Anyone wishing to make a tax-deductible contribution toward Natalie?s national trip can send their donation to Leon County 4-H, PO Box 188, Centerville, TX 75833.
