Charles Edward Benson

Charles Edward Benson was born on March 4, 1956, in Jewett, TX, to Lula Faye Heggins, a proud mother. He received his education in the Leon County School District, graduating from Leon H.S. in 1974. After high school, he became employed at the Nucor Steel Mill. He later moved to Dallas, TX, where he became an employee at Sears, working in the warehouse for the first 10 years, and later promoted to Security Supervisor, until he retired after 18 years of service. While employed at Sears, Bro. Charles met the late Bishop Paul Cannon, Bro. Harry Bibles and others who were members of Full Gospel Holy Temple. In 1975, he was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost, and became a longtime, loyal, dedicated member of Full Gospel for 42 years.

In 1976, Charles met and married the love of his life for the past 40 years, Christine LeSueur. No biological children were born to this marriage, however, Charles and Chris have many loving God-given adopted children and grandchildren.

Charles worked for the Dallas County Sheriff?s Department for the past 15 years, until his transition on April 24th. He received several annual leave perfect attendance awards and two ?Life Saving? awards. He was a faithful member of the Dallas County Honor guard; worked with the Texas State Troopers/DFW Skychief; and worked for Headstart. Charles fulfilled his ministry through how he cared and loved hard for others, and through his witnessing, which has impacted the lives of his coworkers and those that he served daily. Charles? main objective in life always was to make Heaven his eternal home, and to serve others. He was a caring and compassionate mentor not only among his family and friends, but also to his community, coworkers and church family. He will be truly missed. Charles also enjoyed spending time with his dog, farming and taking care of his cattle in Jewett, and took pride in keeping his yard looking beautiful.

Charles was introduced to Christ at an early age being inspired by the Christian example of his mother and grandmother Addie Benson. He joined Friendship Church of God in Christ, Jewett, Texas under the leadership of Elder A.C. Forster.

Charles was preceded in death by his loving mother, Lula Faye Heggins, grandparents, Jerry and Addie Benson, a twin sister Charlene, and uncles Jerry and Scotty Benson.
