APPRECIATION -- Commissioner Court presents John Kirk with a plaque of appreciation for his work as Veterans’ Service Administrator. Commissioners Joey Sullivan, David Ferguson, John Kirk, Judge Byron Ryder, Commissioners Dean Stanford and David Grimes.

Leon County Commissioners held court Wednesday, May 24th, in Centerville. All four commissioners were present. Leon County Judge Byron Ryder presided.

At the beginning of court, Judge Ryder recognized John Kirk and his work as the Leon County Veterans? Services Administrator. Kirk is relinquishing that position to take other work, but expressed his pleasure at having served in that capacity. The court presented Kirk with a plaque to express their gratitude for his work.

The court approved the authorization of an amount not to exceed $6,500 or 10% of the TxDOT total cost to prepare a wetlands delineation and jurisdictional waters analysis for the development of the proposed airport location between County Roads 304 and 305 and between Interstate 45 and State Highway 75. This information is critical to the airport development process and is a mandatory requirement of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for their evaluation of the environmental consequences of developing the site.

Commissioner Joey Sullivan explained that ?TxDOT is willing to pay 90% of the cost of this evaluation, something they don?t have to do, but are doing because they feel strong enough about the project to help us. Our county is not dumping a lot of money into this project.?

Commissioner Dean Stanford suggested that an advertisement be put in all the county papers to feature the upcoming events held at the Expo. Currently, the Expo is booked with events for the summer. The next large event is Nucor?s John Conlee Concert on June 3rd. This event also features a cook off. Stanford?s suggestion was made into a motion and approved.

Emergency Director Jim Carrigan asked the court to increase the cost of county maps they copy and ship to various entities. Currently, the cost of shipping is exceeding the $8 charge they require for the map. The item was tabled until Carrigan can present the court with a written suggestion of cost for the maps and shipping.

A bid of $750 from Andy Ziegelmair to purchase Lot 6 Block 3 in Hilltop Lakes was approved.

A Road Use Agreement for CR 317 in Precinct 1 was approved.

Leon County Treasure Brandy Hill reported a donation of $100 from the Brazos Valley Vietnam Veterans to the Leon County Veterans? Services. And a donation of $230 from Centerville ISD was given to the Leon County Sheriff?s Office and will be earmarked for training. Both donations were approved by the court.
